At last, my very own neighborhood will get a proper grocery store with the opening of the new Whole Foods at 2200 Westlake. It is the latest pet project, (a massive mixed use building) of who else but our very own Paul Allen (Vulcan Inc.) and Vancouver, B.C.-based Milliken (Don).
Construction has already started (last month). We have been obeserving the work from our windows over the past month or so, mainly the demolition of the buildings that were ocuppying that block (Quinton Instruments). Eye sores really. Now out of the way, the view of Lake Union is even larger, albeit only temporarily. Yesterday morning, on the way to the Cristy Carner Salon in Fremont (if you've never had a facial with Ms. Angela Bern, you must book one and soon!), I was able to observe, driving down on Westlake Avenue, how much work has already been done as far as preparing the foundation for the buildings. So exciting!
It is scheduled for completion on August 2006. A new hotel, new condominiums and a Whole Foods Market down the street from us. Walking distance for groceries, an even shorter walk than Pike Place Market. I'm so relieved it is going to be Whole foods and not QFC as it had been previously reported (Whew!). No more driving to the Ravenna or Bellevue's Whole Foods or Queen Anne's Larry's Market. Now that's what I call good news! Seattle just keeps getting better and better.
