It's time for Sarah's Dine & Dish. The task: eat at a restaurant with a woman chef in charge, a Queen of Cuisine.
We are lucky we have many women chefs in the city, all queens of their respective kitchens. My favorite, however, is James Beard Award winning Chef Christine Keff, chef owner of Flying Fish on first Avenue, right here in Belltown.
Her restaurant happens to be one of my favorites (now celebrating its 10 year anniversary) and her green cuisine, comfort seafood with a decidedly Pacific Northwest approach.
This is a woman that respects the produce and sea bounty that she prepares and that is a champion of seasonality, organic, local famers and believes in messing as litle as possible with the gems she sources from local fishermen and farms.
I had exactly one hour for lunch today, the same time on my Pay Station window sticker ($1.50 for 62 minutes). 11:30am, made it to the restaurant just as they were opening the door for their lunch service. Fabulous!
I sat by the window, enjoying my lemonade and pondering what to order. Nothing too complicated. I wanted simple food, fish definitely but nothing too heavy or fried. So I went for the Grilled Fish Tacos. My oh my were they good.
"Open since 1995, chef Christine Keff’s comfortably upscale contemporary seafood of vibrant flavors demanded by the city's well-traveled palates. The hip Belltown restaurant serves lunch and dinner until 1am every night, keeping late-night partyers from going hungry. Every dish here is a work of art, and with small plates, large plates, and platters for sharing, diners are encouraged to sample a wide variety of the kitchen's creations. The menu changes daily."
