So, in an effort to share our love for both of these essential elements of Japanese food culture and in collaboration with Takumi Ono of Jungle City, we'll be hosting together a Japanese tea and sweets tasting Saturday, April 3rd from 1:00-2:30 p.m. in Downtown Seattle.
In this very intimate gathering Mr. Kyohei Sugimoto, VP of Business Development of Sugimoto America will give a presentation on the art of Japanese tea. Attendees will learn how to choose tea, differentiate between fresh and old tea, how to store it and how to brew the best cup of tea you could have at home.
Chef Chika Tokara, the Kyoto-trained wagashi artisan, owner of Tokara, the only Wagashi confectionary in Seattle (and one of a very few on the West Coast) will be giving a presentation on these beautiful, seasonal, delectable and hard to come by hand-crafted (made without eggs and with very few ingredients) Japanese sweets.
I'm currently having a passionate love affair with her "Spring Fog" and the "Fern Mochi" (pictured above). With tea or by themselves, these not so sweet and oh so lovely treats bring back wonderful memories of walks under the blooming Sakura trees and friends with whom they were shared with in Japan.
