I've been going to Delancey since July, back when it was all about Brandon and Molly doing their pre-soft opening dinner parties, soft opening dining service, training staff, trying out the menu and getting a feel for the daily challenges and rewards of opening a restaurant (from scratch), of running it day to day.
Almost three months later and with plenty of great press from all over the country, I am still in awe of these two very fine people, friends of mine (in full disclosure) who have worked their tuchuses off to run a pizza place that feels and looks and tastes like the labor of love that it is for them.
I'm there often because I love Brandon's Padrón, Margherita, Brooklyn and sausage pizzas, the house-made pickles and the burrata, Billy's tomato salad (in summer), Zoe's coppa and Molly's bittersweet chocolate chip cookie with gray salt, her peaches in white wine, the berry-yogurt popsicles (in summer) and the plum crumble with housemade crème fraîche that I've been ordering since it was put on the menu.
But most of all I'm there because when I think of meeting up with local friends for dinner or joining an out of town friend for something delicious and casual, the first place I now think of is Delancey. Because friends or not, Brandon and Molly have a great thing here. Delancey is special. Have you been?
